John Hutton is described in today’s Herald as “Westminster’s Business Secretary”. Wrong. He’s the UK’s Business Secretary, and since Scotland remains part of our wider nation, that means he’s Scotland’s Business Secretary, just as much as David Miliband is Scotland’s Foreign Secretary and Gordon Brown is Scotland’s Prime Minister.
Same goes for Scottish returning officers on the night of general elections: I’m not a “Member of the Westminster Parliament”; I’m a Member of Parliament. The clue is in the initials.
Note to nationalists: Not liking a fact isn’t the same as the fact not being true.
