Frank talk about culture

Had a very enjoyable meal last night with Steven Purcell, leader of Glasgow City Council, and some colleagues from both Westminster and Holyrood. Among these was Frank McAveety, the excellent MSP for Shettleston. Always good company, Frank revealed that as Minister for Culture in the former Labour-led Scottish Executive, he inevitably got on the bad side of the arts lobby over various funding decisions. Finding himself making a speech in front of some of his critics he told them: ” I know I’ve been described as a philistine, but I’ve looked it up in the dictionary and there’s absolutely nothing there under ‘F’…”
