So it’s come to this?

So the late Hugh Trevor-Roper writes a book suggesting many of Scotland’s traditions and history are, as in most countries, based on myth, wishful thinking and (relatively) recent invention, and Alex Salmond’s response? “Well at least our patron saint actually existed and yours didn’t and if he did well the dragon definitely didn’t so there nyah, nyah, nyah!”

Okay, I made up the bit with the nyah, nyahs, but I’ll bet he actually did stick his tongue out.

Political discourse doesn’t come much higher brow than this.
