Apparently, leadership contests in Scottish politics are to be known, henceforth, as “bloodbaths”. That’s according to one or two of today’s press.
Sorry to disappoint members of the feral pack, but that’s not going to happen, any more than the fight to succeed John Swinney as leader of the SNP could be described as such. Yes, there will be a leadership contest, and I’ve no doubt the eventual winner will give the Scottish Executive a harder time than they’ve had of late. But you can’t criticise Labour for having a “coronation” when previous leaders have stood down only to describe any subsequent democratic contest as a bloodbath. It’s just not on, chaps.
