Celebration postponed

DRASTIC change of plan last night. Our youngest (aged 2) had a bad reaction to the antibiotics we’re giving him to clear up a chest infection. And when I say “bad”, I mean his recently-consumed dinner being sprayed over large sections of carpet and curtains. You get the picture.

So instead of a romantic, candle-lit dinner for two to celebrate the tenth anniversary of our nuptials (memo to self: Google “nuptials” to make sure it’s not rude), we cancelled the babysitter and sat in front of the TV. There was still champagne, and the vegetarian fajitas were nice (don’t ask). And there is something sweet, not to say appropriate, in spending the evening of your wedding anniversary being parents and tending to a wee guy who wouldn’t even exist if you hadn’t got together in the first place.

Anyway, we can go out for dinner any time, and we will as soon as conference is over, provided Reggie’s chest has cleared up. I just hope we can get that smell out of the carpet.

    The joys of parenthood

  2. I hope he gets well soon, they usually do in my experience. Did you watch Tony Blair on The Daily Show on More4? I saw the last bit by accident – reminded me how much I miss his ability to communicate his ideas so effectively…

  3. Thanks, Brian. Unfortunately I missed TB on The Daily Show. Does anyone know where it might be found on the web?

I think you have to install 4oD (channel 4 on demand). Go to channel 4 website.

  5. The wee yin is in my prayers.

    You said something nice:

“And there is something sweet, not to say appropriate, in spending the evening of your wedding anniversary being parents and tending to a wee guy who wouldn’t even exist if you hadn’t got together in the first place.”

If your party promoted marriage and the family instead of sex/contraception/abortion, millions more could be in happy, stable and fulfilling relationships.

This week I have had red watermelon thrown up all over my sweater…..by one toddler……nightmares and coughing fit from another…and then the delightful virus got to me……the vicious circle of motherhood. You’ve got to love it.

  8. Hope Reggie is now fully recovered.

They do take over your lives, and that’s how it was supposed to be. Our 20th was recently interrupted cos we realised it clashed with choir practice….

However, hope you get to celebrate your decade of marriage in appropriate style soon.

  9. For removing such smells from a carpet use a dilution of washing powder/liquid (whichever you happen to use to wash clothes with). It’s all about enzymes apparently.

Hope the little fella is better soon.
