Anyone got a spare pair of overalls?

FROM Hansard, 22 April 2008:

Mr. Robert Flello (Stoke-on-Trent, South) (Lab): The boiler suits are lined up, the paintbrushes are ready, the paint pots are waiting. Will my hon. Friend join me at Longton railway bridge to do Network Rail’s job for it, or does he have some good news for me at last?

Mr. Tom Harris: It may well be that following the next reshuffle, I will have some spare time on my hands, in which case I would be more than happy to take up my hon. Friend’s offer.

Do you know Ton its amazing how more human you have become since you were asked to improve the back benches. In fact I like you even more than before, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

  2. And we’re missing you already.

There was a speech in the red box you handed back unopened on Sunday which you were to have made at the Railway forum conference on Tuesday. An understudy duly appeared.

Your speech writer in DafT had got your style to a Tee, and hearing it delivered by a civil servant (Dr Mike) in a flat monotone was weird – sort of disembodied Minister speaking from the fourth dimension. He then scuttled off without answering questions.

With your railway experience you should appoint yourself the COSS at Longton. Did you keep a hi-viz jacket.

  3. Don’t worry Tom. As a former member of the government, I’m sure Mr Flello didn’t expect you to be a man of your word.

Saying that, now you’re a backbencher again, you’re probably more honourable. Away to Longton!

Have you picked the colour yet? I’ve some old paint charts you can borrow. I’ve heard purple is the new green.
