Clichés are forever

I SEE the old Bond clichés are being dusted down by news desks in advance of the release of Quantum of Solace. Today’s Telegraph carries the headline: “Watch it, Bond: The new girls bite back”.

(Yawn)

Well, gosh, that’s an interesting and novel idea for a news piece… Except that the “Bond girls aren’t just eye candy any more – they’re lipstick feminists who stand up for themselves, etc, etc…” has been an inevitable part of the hype for just about every 007 movie since Goldfinger.

So will readers please alert me when they see the first “Licence to thrill!” headline? I always enjoy that one.

Incidentally, The Telegraph‘s special Bond pages are worth a read if you’re into that sort of thing.

    A bit old perhaps but……….headline on BBC News website ‘Bond maze is licensed to thrill’ on 17th August, 2008. About a farmer in Devon who has created a maize maze of 007 and his Aston Martin car.
    Different, I suppose…….

To be fair, as much as Quantum of Solace is probably going to be a brilliant film, on a par with Casino Royale for grittiness and modernity, I’m still hosting a 007-themed Hallowe’en party on the day of release. Complete with myself and some mates going to the showing in DJ’s and girls turning up in cocktail dresses.

    There are some things that are just so…Bond that they can’t be dropped by the wayside.
