Republicans ‘inviting defeat’ – Hitchens

HOW bad is John McCain doing when Christopher Hitchens says this about his campaign:

It therefore seems to me that the Republican Party has invited not just defeat but discredit this year, and that both its nominees for the highest offices in the land should be decisively repudiated, along with any senators, congressmen, and governors who endorse them.

I still refuse to get my hopes up: I don’t want my fragile heart dashed once more against the rocks of another unforeseen Republican triumph (in other words, I hope Obama wins).

  1. Don’t worry, the only way the Republicans can win is to cheat (so perhaps you should worry after all!).

There are so many lessons for Labour to learn from Obama’s campaign it’s not possible to type them all up. The main one is that when you’re winning despite the media narrative, even the most hostile media will eventually follow (and the cyber-Republicans will be shown to be the extremists they are). The other Party will implode into self-recrimination well before a vote is cast too.

Got that? Forget the media, campaign effectively, and on the issues people really care about, and you can do anything. Even elect a black man as President of arguably the most racist country in the World!

I’m a floating (non) voter on this one. Don’t like McCain and the Republican neocons, don’t trust Obama – he’s far too evocative of Blair, far too smooth and full of spin and far too inexperienced too. Glad I’m not a member of the American electorate right now, I don’t think I could vote for either of them.

    Labourmatters.
So when are you going to do what you say. For republican read Labour and there you have it. As the only way labour will get back in is to cheat and you are very good at that. What a mess of our country you have made and you still think there is a chance you will get back in. When you start spending your way out of recession it will make things worse.
The only way you can spend out of recession is when you have something to spend.
Its how we get out of dept. The first thing you do is STOP SPENDING. If you dont it will be worse in the end. God Labour are thick.
