It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Gordon!

YOU may have seen these images already – they appeared in the dailies a few months back, and depict a cartoon Prime Minister Brown dealing with an invasion of  supervillain aliens.

I was reminded of this while reflecting on the (over? hysterical?) reaction to GB’s tonge-slip at the despatch box on Wednesday and the subsequent references to Harriet “Wonder Woman” Harman and her description of GB as “Superman” (and also of Do-Nothing as “The Joker”).

Anyway, here is GB, in the company of none other than Captain Britain (natch) as they consider strategy in the face of a Skrull invasion of the UK. Note the honorific “Mr Prime Minister” used by one of GB’s aides – clearly an American sub-editor’s work. It may be “Mr President” over there but it’s still plain old “Prime Minister” here.

The comic in question is “Secret Invasion: Captain Britain and MI 13”, issue 1, published by Marvel and written by Paul Cornell, who will be remembered by Doctor Who fans as the writer of the brilliant season three  two-parter, “Human Nature” and “The Family of Blood”. Just thought you’d like to know.

  1. Is ‘captain Midlands’ Tom Watson?

  2. Tom, I see your wife is getting in on the writing act.

I agree with everything she says.

    Tom
Despite Brown’s and Balls’s attempts at spin, two senior German politicians have stated that they meant what they said, that this is no internal matter, but that you are saddling us (the UK) with ridiculous levels of debt for at least a generation.

Labour, as ever are f***ing the economy – as all labour governments have done since 1951 – do read some history Tom there’s a good chap

  4. “two senior German politicians have stated that they meant what they said, that this is no internal matter, but that you are saddling us (the UK) with ridiculous levels of debt for at least a generation.”

Really?! German politicians? I never realised they were German! Then you’re absolutely right – if German politicians say we got it wrong then they must be right, even if they’re in a tiny minority internationally. Gosh, why didn’t you say they were German before now…?

  5. Back onto the more pressing matter at hand.

It appears that in this strip a Labour Prime Minister has nationalised Britain’s super-heroes.

  6. Andy

Yes that’s right Tom, GERMAN, they have a pretty good economic record so unlike the incompetent McBroon, they have some cred. Heck they even took a completely bankrupt socialist state next door and assimilated it into their successful thriving country.

You on the other hand have taken a once thriving country and done the opposite

  7. RJ Lewis

Ahem never one to normally do anything than agree with you Tom…but the aliens invading are the ‘Skrulls’. Little, oddly coloured, duplicitious shape-shifters…..*thinks Alun Duncan*

  8. You’re absolutely right – just a typo, now corrected. Thanks.
