Greatest Christmas hits of the last 2000 years: No. 12

All I Want For Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey

YOU often hear the complaint that all the decent Christmas songs have been written, and that no-one produces any memorable or affectionate seasonal songs any more.

Arguably true, but here’s an exception. a great song which is catchy and appropriate (okay, admittedly it’s not that recent – 1994, I think). The only thing that put me off this was that I first heard it when it was being performed in Love Actually, in the school concert scene at the end. But just because a version of a song is on the soundtrack of one of the worst films ever – EVER – made doesn’t make it a bad one. In fact, listen to it often enough and you might even begin to forget that Richard Curtis is even guilty of that particular grisly crime against Christmas and mankind.
