Greatest Christmas hits of the last 2000 years: No. 6

Fairytale of New York – The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl

ONE of the few relatively recent Christmas offerings which is a great song in its own right. Evocative, uplifting and sad at the same time. So captures the Christmas spirit pretty well, then. And don’t even mention the Maire Brennan/Ronan Keating version…

I’d forgotten Matt Dillon is in the video.

One must also take a look a this:
It features Ireland’s number #1 meat product, now the pork is out of the question, Dustin the Turkey, which they entered into Eurovision (we should do similar for role of commissioner) , and Dervla Kirwan, now on Doctor Who.

  2. Blackacre

    Only 6th?!

  3. Johnny Norfolk

I knew we would have the bagpipes sometime. I prefere them for Burns Night.

  4. Er....

Yes, for once I must take issue with Tom here. Only 6th? This is a disgrace!

  5. Rapunzel

If you know 5 songs better than this I can’t wait to see what they are! I had this pegged for number one!

Are you sure there’s no more Cliff?

  6. Now that this is at 6th it’s going to be interesting to see what’s at number 1. Some of the other lists I’ve seen put this at number 1, which I don’t think it deserves to be.
